The Southwest Warriors Return With Familiar Faces!

By Sam Godsey

The Southwest Warriors are returning for their eleventh season in the American Basketball Association (ABA). Owner Aldis Presley started his basketball career at Southwest Christian Academy and later played at Texas Wesleyan. While at Texas Wesleyan, Presley played table tennis as well and was a 6-time national champion. He was a part of a Table Tennis team that performed at halftime during a Dallas Mavericks game. After the show, Rick Carlisle saw Presley shooting and was impressed thus reigniting Presley’s basketball career. In 2011, Aldis Presley tried out for the Atlanta Aliens and played four games before the team folded. After Aldis and his late father decided to start their team, thus the Southwest Warriors were born! 2012 was the Warriors' first season, and in 2013 Aldis was playing for the team as well as a little bit of coaching and helping his father with ownership. Aldis Presley has had a very impressive ABA career which includes being a 9 time ABA All-Star.

The Southwest Warriors will be having a total of eight players returning for the upcoming season. Khyle Harris will be returning for his 3rd year, and he said regarding his experience “ I've learned so much about playing the game the right way and about life in general. We have a close-knit team, and we are focused on building a winning culture. Our last season didn't turn out the way we wanted it to but now we are more determined than ever to make a splash in our division”. Donnivan Presley played two games toward the end of the season but is a great defensive piece of the team. Donnivan Presley is excited to be a part of the family business, even more, this upcoming season. Rob Stewart is back after a short stint with the team. Stewart is focused on building team chemistry and being a team player. Quincy Elmore is returning after a short stint with the team last year, he wants to come back faster, more confident, and be a high-energy leader on and off the floor. His goal this season is to emphasize a winning attitude and dedicate the season to the late Coach Presley. Willis Brownlee is returning for the Warriors as well! His latest season was in the UBA as part of the Georgia Vipers, where he was named an All-Star while averaging 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Warriors are excited to have Willis back for another season! Finally, the last player returning to the Warriors is Kenny Kelly, who is entering his fifth year as an ABA player. He is the main facilitator for the Warriors but also can get a bucket when needed. He is glad to still be playing and being able to offer leadership and development to youth. The Warriors are going to be a team to watch out for as Kelly and all the other returning players suit up for the Warriors once again!
